About Benji Smith
Benji joined Barnes Maloney PLLC in October 2024 as an associate attorney. He focuses his practice on insurance defense and civil litigation.
Benji was born and raised in rural East Texas. He previously worked as a software user experience designer in Dallas, Austin, and San Francisco before pursuing a career in law. Benji received a B.S. in Organizational Leadership from Colorado State University Global in 2020 and his J.D. in 2023 from Brooklyn Law School in New York, where he co-founded the First-Generation Professionals student organization, was admitted into the New York Court of Appeals Pro Bono Scholar program, represented asylum seekers in the Safe Harbor Project, and served as research assistant to Professor Anita Bernstein, a nationally recognized authority on tort law.
Prior to joining the firm, Benji interned and worked for nonprofits in New York, Kentucky, Alaska, and California representing clients facing civil legal issues in immigration, public benefits, healthcare, housing, family law, and tribal law.
Benji shares a house with two vocal Siberian huskies. In his free time, he boxes, bartends, indulges in questionable reality TV, and is studying to become fluent in Spanish.
